UWNC Stationed at NC Emergency Operations Center to Track Hurricane Helene

Today and tomorrow, United Way of North Carolina (UWNC) staff members Michele Otake (Resource Supervisor) and Sara Carlson (Mission Advancement Specialist) are on the ground at North Carolina's Emergency Operations Center in Raleigh, NC. They are there on behalf of NC 211, UWNC's information referral service.

Being on site to receive live updates on the hurricane have been beneficial in alerting our local United Ways, community members, and fellow staff on the expectations of the storm and its wrath on parts of our state, especially Western NC.

Otake has been busy keeping regular contact with local agencies to obtain updates for the resource database, ensuring our Resource Specialists have the most up-to-date information to provide our callers.

Carlson has been handling communications, sending email updates to the local United Ways and crafting storm and shelter updates to post on UWNC's and NC 211's Facebook and Instagram pages.
