Each year employee groups from across North Carolina showcase their campaign success through the Spirit of North Carolina process.  Local United Ways nominate campaigns that are successful in engaging senior leadership; establish partnerships with the community to raise awareness of needs and foster a spirit of giving; and, have stellar campaign coordination efforts.  

Success is not measured in the amount of dollars raised alone, but focuses on the mission, vision and philanthropic culture of the organization which results in real community change.  Over 75 applications are received yearly and 39 organizations were winners in 2013.  UWNC applauds the efforts of every participant, showcasing best practices at the UWNC Annual Meeting in February. 
A little friendly competition adds momentum and excitement to the campaign, and the Spirit of North Carolina guidelines stimulate excellence with specific goals to achieve.  However, the local community is the real winner as motivated and caring volunteers have a greater sense of determination to achieve positive solutions for their neighborhood.
