United Way of North Carolina is pleased to have received a grant from United Way World Wide to explore the issue of effective teaching.  The Teachers Matter grant is designed to study how we can decrease the dropout rate and increase student performance by supporting and empowering teachers.

“We know that success in school is the foundation our children build their futures upon,” said Jill Cox, Director of Advocacy and Communications at United Way of North Carolina.  “By working to make sure teachers have adequate tools to shape the future of our children, we ensure their ability to compete in the global job market once they complete school.  The grant funding we received will help us gather education leaders, community leaders, teachers and parents to advocate for solutions that empower teachers and students to achieve success together.”

Learn more about giving at your workplace including codes to designate to United Way if you are a state employee or visit the CFC website at www.opm.gov/cfc/ if you are a federal employee.

Please condiser investing in your community through the work of United Way and their community partners.  Workplace giving provides an opportunity to support the work of charitable organizations by having your contribution deducted from each paycheck.  If you are not sure if your workplace runs a United Way campaign, check with your payroll or human resources department.

All State and Federal employees have an opportunity to give through payroll deduction.  As a State or Federal employee, you can keep your contribution at home helping to inspire and sustain long-lasting changes and long-term solutions for your community.  For more information on how to be part of the change, contact your local United Way.
