Roy Watson, Jr. is Vice President of the Local Group Segment at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina and responsible for the sales, retention, and financial performance of all employer groups with one to 99 employees in all 100 counties of North Carolina. In this role he provides strategic leadership and direction for the sales team, stressing the importance of continued development and maintenance of key relationships in the market. These relationships foster membership retention as well as new business growth. Roy works in concert with business partners to help develop and initiate strategies to enhance Blue Cross NC products and services, such as providing education and insight to employers and agents regarding the Affordable Care Act and its impact on their businesses.

Prior to taking his current position, he held several positions within the Blue Cross and Blue Shield system. He began his Blue career in 1993 with Highmark in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania as a claims coder, then moved into a dedicated customer service role where he was a representative for large multi-state clients. He moved to North Carolina in 1995 and joined Blue Cross NC in the sales organization, functioning in capacities ranging from account representative to sales director.

Roy is a graduate of the University of Alabama with a B.S. in Health Care Management.

In addition to serving on the United Way of North Carolina Board of Directors, he is a member of the Morrisville Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors and the United Way Leadership Circle. He is also an active member of Christian Faith Baptist Church in Raleigh, where he serves in several ministries.
