For Local United Ways

Local United Way's Role in a Disaster

United Way is not an immediate response crisis relief agency. However, we are intimately connected to the public and the social services networks that support the men, women and children in communities affected by disaster. In the midst of a crisis access to social services becomes crucial. The ability of local United Ways to support local social service networks will help determine the success of that community’s ability to prepare, respond and recover from a crisis.

Monetary donations also allow supplies to be purchased closer to the disaster, avoiding delays, transportation and logistical costs that often happen with material donations.
