With more than 17 years of management experience in public services, John Eller currently serves as County Manager in Davie County. Prior to this post, he served as Director of Catawba County Social Services, which offers many more programs than a traditional social services model. His area of expertise includes continuous quality improvement efforts, strategic alignment, outcome planning, community outreach, public policy, and legislative advocacy.
John earned an undergraduate social work degree from Appalachian State University, and obtained an MBA from the McColl School of Business at Queen’s University in Charlotte. He is also a graduate of the Senior Executive Institute at the University of Virginia-Weldon Cooper Center for Public Service.
In 2014, he served as president of the NC Association of County Directors of Social Services. He was appointed by the Governor to the NC Human Resources Commission, and was also appointed by the General Assembly to the NC Joint Study Commission on Aging for two terms. John also serves on the Davie County Economic Development Board, Davie County United Way Board, Davidson and Davie County Community College Foundation Board, Davie County Smart Start Board, Davie Domestic Violence and Rape Crisis Board, and Mocksville Rotary Club. He is also a member of the International County/City Management Association, National Association of County Administrators, NC City and County Management Association, and National Association of Counties.
He was nominated for the Presidential Volunteer Award for his work in Mecklenburg County, which he received from President George W. Bush in 2006.
